Who we are
Why this site exists
Mexico is enormous. Thirty-two states, thousands of kilometres of coastline, dozens of indigenous cultures, and a food scene that operates on a completely different level to what most visitors expect. Planning a trip here means making hard choices — Yucatan or Oaxaca? Pacific coast or Gulf? Two weeks is not enough to scratch the surface.
We built The Mexico Guides to help with those choices. Not by ranking destinations in a top-ten list, but by giving each place the space it needs so you can figure out what actually suits your trip.
Practical and safety-aware
We take safety seriously without being alarmist. Mexico's security situation varies wildly by region, and blanket statements — positive or negative — are unhelpful. Our guides include specific, current safety notes where they matter. We tell you which overnight bus routes are fine and which areas to research more carefully before visiting.
Beyond safety, we cover the practical stuff that saves time: how colectivos work, which cenotes charge inflated tourist prices, where to find real mole rather than the tourist version, and how to avoid the worst of the Cancun resort markup.
Affiliate partnerships
Some links on this site earn us a commission if you book through them. This does not affect what you pay. It does help keep The Mexico Guides running and independent. We do not recommend services for commission — only for quality. Our affiliate disclosure page has the full details.
