IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel returns on 20 September 2026 for its 15th edition, drawing more than 1,500 triathletes from dozens of countries to the Caribbean island. The Course
The swim leg covers 1.9 km in the warm, clear waters off Cozumel’s western shore, starting near the Presidente InterContinental pier. Visibility in this section of the Caribbean Sea often exceeds 20 metres, making it one of the more scenic swim courses on the circuit.
The 90 km bike leg follows the island’s main highway in a loop taking riders past the ferry terminal and south toward Punta Sur. Elevation gain is minimal — Cozumel is essentially flat — so expect fast split times and a competitive field. Winds from the east can create crosswind sections on the exposed southern stretch.
The 21.1 km run follows the waterfront malecon before looping through San Miguel’s streets. Spectators line the entire route, and the finish arch sits on the seafront with views across the channel to the Yucatán Peninsula.
What Spectators Should Know
Even if you are not racing, race day on Cozumel is worth watching. The seafront fills with supporters and the town’s restaurants and bars stay busy from dawn. Transition areas open to the public before and after the race, and the finish-line atmosphere continues well into the evening.
Road closures affect the coastal highway from early morning on race day. Ferries from Playa del Carmen continue to run, but expect additional traffic around the ferry terminal in the hours before the swim start.
