Puerto Vallarta Airport Transfer Guide — PVR Ground Transport

Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) sits in a central position — north of Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town, south of the Hotel Zone, and adjacent to the marina district. This geography means transfer distances are short compared to other Mexican beach airports, but the lack of public transport to the hotel zone still makes ground transport planning worthwhile.

Airport Layout

PVR has a single terminal building with domestic and international arrivals on the ground floor. Airlines served include American, Delta, United, Alaska, Air Canada, WestJet, Volaris, VivaAerobus, and Aeromexico. Most international arrivals clear customs and exit into the main arrivals hall where transport desks are located.

Authorised Airport Taxis

The standard option for most arrivals. Inside the arrivals hall, look for the official SITIO AEROPUERTO taxi voucher desk. Pay a fixed zone-based fare before exiting — no negotiating with individual drivers.

Note: Uber availability at the airport can be inconsistent during busy periods — some drivers decline airport pickups due to the short distances involved. Have the official taxi counter as a backup.

Several transfer companies operate shared minivans from the airport. You share with other passengers heading to the same general zone, which reduces cost but adds time for drop-offs.

• Avoid unsolicited offers: PVR arrivals can attract unofficial taxi and tour touts immediately outside the exit doors. Use the official voucher desk inside the terminal.
• Return transfer: Your hotel concierge can arrange a return airport transfer. Alternatively, Uber works reliably in central Puerto Vallarta; surge pricing around 4–6 am for early flights is common during peak season.
• Luggage storage: PVR does not have a formal left-luggage facility — if your accommodation won’t hold bags, downtown Puerto Vallarta has several paid luggage storage services near the Malecón.
• Currency: ATMs (HSBC, Santander, Banamex) are available in arrivals. Withdraw some MXN before your transfer for incidentals and tips.
• High season: December through March and July–August see the longest queues at transfer desks. Allow extra time in arrivals and consider pre-booking to skip the queue entirely.
